Even with the popularity of video interviewing (63% of companies use them), there are still those that aren’t on board yet. We wanted to gather some of the more popular comments from the non-believers and share our response to those comments.
Nay-Sayer Reactions:
1. Webcams are hard to come by: Most laptops and desktops built in the last five years have a webcam installed within the computer. If your candidate falls in that small percentage of people that don’t have access to a webcam, don’t worry about it! Some video interviewing vendors like Async offer a webcam option and will ship one right to your candidate. If they don’t, consider sending one yourself to boost your employer brand and ensure the interview can be completed.
2. We’ll have to train all of interviewers on a new process: If the interviewers in your company have already been well trained on the process, then the video interview won’t be much of a change. To help with the learning curve, we provide our clients with virtual training, best practices and ongoing education. So really, it won’t take long for your team to be ready for their first few interviews to be completed!
3. We are happy with our current process and don’t have time to learn something new: Speaking of time, studies conducted in the recruiting space have learned that video interviewing can save organizations 30% of their time in the hiring process. Maybe there will be a brief learning period, but as mentioned above, your video interviewing vendor won’t leave you hanging. Training documents and ongoing education will be coming your way to make it a seamless transition for your organization.
4. Our candidates won’t want to video interview: We would absolutely disagree. Not only will your candidates be excited to take part in a video interview, they’ll also see your organization as innovative and forward thinking. What’s more important than that? How about the time video interviews save for candidates? Candidates with jobs will be able to take a quick break or a half-day off instead of a full day. Whether your candidate lives in the next town over or 3,000 miles away, they’ll appreciate the time saved with a video interview.
5. We are better at making an impression in person: Your interview team will be able to wow candidates just as well in interviews. Sure, maybe candidates won’t receive the full office tour on their first video interview, but video interviewing isn’t meant to be the one and only step in the process. It’s mean to narrow down your candidates to a few top performers who can enjoy the full office tour.
